  • One Tree Hill (OTH): What's go

    • From: jatseed
    • Description:

"One Tree Hill" (OTH): What's going on with its stars?

The young stars (Burton, Murray, Galeotti, Lafferty, and Bush) should read The Wall Street Journal (TWSJ) article of April 2, 2009, entitled: "Hollywood Squeezes Stars' Pay In Slump", before they "hold out" for new contracts, since OTH has already been renewed by The CW Network for Season Seven (S-7).  The TWSJ article says that Hollywood studios are now negotiating to pay their movie stars with "last dollars earned" rather than "first dollars earned" as in the past.  The studios want to get back their expenses BEFORE they pay the stars with box office revenues earned.  Example: If a movie cost $50 Million to make, and the box office receipts were only $25 Million, then there would be no "profits" until after market and overseas DVD sales etc., exceeded $50 Million.  The stars would get a lesser "salary" while the movie was being produced, but the box office sales revenues would have to exceed total studio costs before the stars made any additional money.

One of the issues involved in the potential Screen Actors' Guild (SAG) "strike" threat is giving the actors a share of future DVD and Internet "royalties" on the movies in which they star.  This is especially important for stars like Hilarie Burton where several of her movies have gone straight (or simultaneously with box office release) to DVD ("The List"; "The Secret Life of Bees") with limited  or no "box office" revenues from walk-in theater sales.  All actors should get a share of royalties from DVD and Internet (or any media) sales of their works, but the studios have monopolized this source of revenue in the past.  This is definitely an issue for "non-Mega" stars ("Mega Stars" usually make most of their money in "up front" payments before or during the production phase of a movie before there are ANY box office revenues), where box office sales are "unpredictable", but revenues over time from DVD and Internet sales could be substantial.

During these stressed economic times, when the general public laborer constantly fears losing their job, the young stars of OTH, with a "hit" TV series which has been renewed for S-7, should seek reasonable contracts, in line with OTH TV ratings and ad revenues, but not "hold out" for overly lucrative contracts which cannot be sustained by revenues present or future.  If they want to wait to "sign" a new contract until the SAG strike issue has been settled, and royalty issue discussions have been concluded, that is understandable, but with production of OTH S-7 starting in the Summer of 2009, the "core cast" of OTH for S-7 should NOT BE IN DOUBT, because it affects the whole story line of future OTH episodes.

Based on the career paths of past "young stars" in discontinued prime time TV series (exs: "Roswell"; "Dawson's Creek", "The O.C."), NONE of the OTH major stars are "ready" to pursue individual "leading actor" roles in big production movies.  Each of the OTH stars have "unique" opportunities, under the stability of the OTH series' "umbrella", to pursue career "growth" and "broadening" paths without major risk or financial penalty.  Chad Michael Murray (CMM) has written and directed episodes of OTH.  Bethany Joy Galeotti has directed and sung in episodes, and pursued a separate music career.  Hilarie Burton has started her own production company and pursued several career broadening movie opportunities, while advancing her acting talents within OTH.  Sophia Bush has starred in at least one movie ("The Hitcher") as well as advanced her literary interests as a journalist, while honing her acting skills within OTH.  James Lafferty, the youngest (24 years old) of the OTH stars, has pursued outside charitable interests as well as built acting credentials and experience within OTH.

The bottom line is this: OTH has been "good" for its young stars, and up to this point, the stars have been loyal to OTH.  OTH has been renewed for S-7 in 2009-2010.  A "logical"  OTH story line progression depends on the "retention" of, at least, the five major stars, Hilarie Burton (Peyton Sawyer), CMM (Lucas Scott), James Lafferty (Nathan Scott), Bethany Joy Galeotti ( Haley James Scott), and Sophia Bush (Brooke Davis).  The "logical continuity" of the OTH story line depends on the maturation and interaction of these five characters, along with their supporting cast.  If Burton "leaves", Peyton's story line "dies", and Lucas' "life long, "soul mate", love interest is gone.  If CMM leaves, Lucas' story line "dies", and Peyton is left without her "soul mate" (no more Leyton!).  If Bush leaves, Brooke's story line  "dies", Peyton loses her best friend, and there is no "Brucas" or companion "love story" to counterbalance the relationships of "Naley" and "Leyton".  If Galeotti or Lafferty leaves, the Nathan or Haley story line "dies", and there is no "Naley", no brother,  best friend and confidant for Lucas, no mother or father for Jamie (Brundage), and no "basketball" or "teaching" theme for OTH.   Like the TV series "Friends", which eventually produced one "Mega Star" (Jennifer Aniston) and five "A/B" level stars, the TV series prospered while all six stars STAYED TOGETHER, and "folded" (ended), when their individual ambitions began to get "too big for the Friend's "pond"".  Only one "Friends" cast member has unquestionably succeeded and prospered,  Jennifer Aniston, but the other five cast members have only had sporadic success.

My "advice" to the major stars of OTH is to continue to "dance with the girl whom you brought".  Stay with OTH as long as you have a loyal fan base (3 million plus fans), the OTH story lines are challenging and rewarding personally and professionally, you are growing within the profession and are pursuing interests which bring you personal satisfaction, for as long as The CW Network (or some other network) wants you, and you are compensated commensurately with your age, talent, and comparative "worth" in the profession.  In an economic recession, if you have a job, stay with it.  The "grass" on the other side of the fence is NOT "greener", it is just "different", and the "animals" on the other side of the fence already have "first choice" on the "grass" you can only "see".  You are all 26-28 years old, or younger, and that is "immature" for your profession.  No major film producer, studio,  or TV executive is going to "risk" their "capital" in this economic environment on "unproven" (new and unfamiliar) "leading actors", and no new TV series, if you could get one, is going to be as "nurturing" as OTH has been, and probably will continue to be.  Negotiate fairly and, as a group, if you need to do so, but do not  leave this "horse" (OTH) in "mid stream", when the "bank" (S-7) is within your "grasp".

  • No Brucas

    • From: Tutorgirl99
    • Description:

I have been a Brucaser since i started watching OTH in the middle of the 3rd season. I always thought they had the best chemestry and were the perfect couple. Now though, i have to say that i dont want Brucas to be together. Lucas isnt the best guy in some ways anyway. (cheater, cheater) If he left peyton when he was engaged to her and she was pregnant, he would be a total slime and the his character would just be ruined. I think Brucaser should jusat accept that leyton is what Mark has planned to happen. Leyton will never be my favorite tv couple, but i would HATE lucas if he left peyton, and her being pregnant. I hoped for it before, but now it would just be to sleezy.

  • Monday's Episode

    • From: smarielugo
    • Description:

I love how each season gets more and more dramatic. It makes for a much better show. Good job Mark, your brilliance never seizes to amaze me! So to talk about Monday's episode. It was definitely worth the 2 to 3 week wait, which I always hate. I mean, from Sam getting held hostage to Peyton being pregnant with Lucas's baby, was definitely great to come back to, as twisted as that may sound.

So, what I am about to say may upset some of you "Brucas" fans, but I am so happy "Leyton" is starting a family of their own. Guaranteed, "Naley" is the best family of the show, there's always room for a second great family! Toward the end of the episode when Peyton and Lucas were together in the room, the way Lucas looked at her showed he cared for her so much. It was the look all the girls in the world wished a guy would give them. Lucas is finally stepping up his game, with no girl drama or heart drama. Go "Leyton!"

I found it really funny how Julian and Brooke are getting close, when I just watched an old episode from way back when, where Brooke and Peyton got into a fight over Brooke sleeping with Nathan and Peyton kissing Lucas. I think Brooke and Peyton take their friendship to a whole other level, instead of sharing clothes they share boys! It was really weird seeing Julian go from a cocky jerk, to a guy who had Brooke's back. Speaking of Brooke, she's a BEAST. I only wish I could handle and stand up to others like she does. Most people wouldn't have remembered what a guy said to them while they were being attacked. When he said "have a nice night" the only thing I thought of was when he said that to Q and then shot him. I didn't know he had said that to Brooke, but regardless he's the stupidest thief, murderer, and kidnapper..... ever.

Okay, so Milly and Owen? I saw it coming, but when Milly had said she had sex, common sense it was with Owen, it was crazy. She had gotten so upset with Mouth, because another girl was all over him and he didn't exactly push her away, but she slept with someone else. It must suck waiting so long to make losing your virginity special and it end up being some drunken hook up with a bartender. I wish some people would think. Now, for Milly to confess to Brooke, although Brooke was guilty of those sorts of things in the past. That should be a crazy catfight in itself. Hopefully both of them handle themselves like women and don't go all Brooke and Peyton on each other, egging one another's houses and writing [...] on a dress.

Next week's episode should be great, full of confessions and boy drama! It's an episode us OTH fans should be anticipating. Oh and by the way, I don't think Brooke saying "Get out" in the preview was toward Peyton. I think Brooke has become a better person and that she wouldn't get upset with Peyton for having a baby. I know Brooke is better then that. But, we shall see! Oh & I love Skillz! :) "Don't have to take out all your anger on these defenseless pencils."

  • I'm back! & Posting feedback :

    • From: smarielugo
    • Description:

So I haven't written one of these in awhile, since I've been busy with my first semester of college! The last thing I wrote about was the episode where Q was shot and killed, which was really sad. So I guess I'll try to remember all of the episodes since and post some of my feedback, if I forget something just look for another blog for when I remember! So let's start dishing :)

First, the episode with Q's funeral and how Sam was the one giving the eulogy at the end of the episode was so amazing. She wrote something so incredible with out having to know all the details about Q or having to know him at all. I feel like in a way, Sam is another form of Q. She has a lot to learn and Brooke taking her in, she will learn. It's like Q, Haley and Nathan wanted what was best for him and in a way took him under their wing and made him into a better person. I'm looking forward to seeing Sam develop into something great, because at the beginning, everyone faces trials and tribulations. I think all a person needs is a good role model.

The whole Nanny Carrie thing, I completely forgot she was in this season because for once she's actually gone. I couldn't remember if i was getting last season and this season confused, because I really had a hard time remembering her in this season. I do remember though, the episode where she pretended to be hospice and have Haley and Jamie come and visit Dan. I couldn't believe she knocked Haley out and went after Jamie. Although, I have to give Jamie props he is very smart and made a good move by running out of the car and into the corn field. In the previews when the hand popped out and grabbed Jamie, I thought it was going to be Nanny Deb but instead it was Haley. When they ran out of the field and toward the house and Nanny Deb came from behind the car and knocked Nanny Carrie out, that was awesome! I love how she said, "I was saving this till the day I was free of Dan." That was great! Although, Dan is a bad, bad, man he did a great job by shooting that [...]. I'm just glad she is gone!

I'm glad that Brooke finally told Peyton about the attack in the store. Although, it was shocking to find out that all along her mother wasn't the one behind the attack. Instead it was one of Sam's stupid friends. You can tell that Sam was hurt for Brooke, because the bad things she had said about Brooke weren't meant to go that far. Sam was basically venting after she had tried to rob Brooke, but her friend had taken everything to heart and tried to be a "good" friend but instead potentially ruined the bond that Sam and Brooke were forming. Boys will be boys. They don't want to listen when you want them to, but when you are just rambling on they take everything so seriously. I really hope that Brooke and Owen get together this season because I love them together. Owen is trying so hard to make up for his mistakes but I think that Brooke has so much going on, she can't see that. Speaking of Owen, he'd better not be dumb and sleep with Milly because that's what it looked like at the end of the last episode. Also, shocker, Sam got into her friends car with her friend and the guy that killed Q! That was insane. My jaw dropped. I hope she finds out and calls the cops on his butt.

Just as things between Peyton and Lucas get good, that guy (I forgot his name) but director dude came along. I hate flashbacks of Peyton and her love life, because she was practically in love with every guy she talked to. I mean there was Jake, Pete, him (?), and Lucas. Where does her line of lovers end?! Then to be a cherry on top of a blooming relationship, she might have ovarian cancer like Ellie? This drama needs to stop, I mean yes drama is necessary but I believe that "Leyton" has had plenty of drama to last them a lifetime. Then poor Mia got dismissed from the label. I know Peyton didn't mean it but she needs to get Mia back!

Then Mouth, Milly, and that slut from high school. I can't believe that there is potential of Mouth and Milly not working! I love them together, hopefully she doesn't screw up and sleep with Owen.

In regards to real life, James and Sophia?! Sophia is like the Peyton of real life! She's got her line of lovers, who's next? I think they are cute, but it must be awkward on set for her and Chad! :)

The end, sorry it was so long, but I had a lot to dish about! :)

  • My new OTH site.

    • From: LozzyH
    • Description:

For the past 2 days I have been putting together a website dedicated to One Tree Hill fan fiction. I finally got it live on the net last night and need some advice about how I can get the public aware of its existence. There will be no point to keeping the site going if I can't get loads of ppl submitting their stories. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I love doing fan fictions. I currently do them for the official Harry Potter site and they are very popular. I started thinking what can I do next and thought about submitting my own tree hill stories. When I was looking for somewhere to post them I expected to find a site dedicated to this alone as there are so many for other shows and films out there. I couldnt find one and if there is one I sure as hell couldnt see it.

That is when I had the idea to create a website where all OTH fans and fellow writers can post and read all in one place. I know it is early days and no doubt I will get some postings soon, but please if you are reading this blog then please keep posting your stories on my site in mind and if you know other writers please direct them to my site www.treehillfanfiction.com

So we are 5 episodes in right!?

I think it is completely retarted that I have to use
the D*MN notepad on my computer to type my stupid blog since everytime I do it in the blog it wipes it right as I am about to finish up. I am so pissed right now I am surprised that this computer is not out the window. SO after writing EVERYTHING about EVERYONE in the blog before it got deleted you will all have to deal with my shortened version of it. And I really had some VERY WELL WRITTEN play by play action scenes relived in that damn blog.

Haley: I think she was dumb for taking Jamie to the house in the country.
I am however glad that she used some sort of common sense by locking him in the car.
I am also glad they escaped Nanny Carrie.

Deb: gets two points for having good instincts and for knocking out the Nanny with her bottle of wine she was going to use to celebrate Dan's death with.

Dan: also gets two points. ONE is for shooting Nanny in the chest when she snuck up behind Deb and Haley while they were talking and thought Nanny was down and out for the count. The other point is for KILLING NANNY CARRIE! WAY TO GO DAN! He made good on his promise to kill her the next time she came near his family.

Nanny Carrie: will NOT BE MISSED... I have a feeling the Ravens basketball team will NOT be at her funeral.

Lucas: I was worried I thought some kissing was going to be involved when he went on his trip to see
Lindsey and to see about his book tour. Luckily no kisses were exchanged. I am glad that he decided to tell Lindsey in person. The look on her face was priceless.

Lindsey: I still hate her and I hope that Lucas CRUSHED her with his news. She has some real
nerve writing I love you and I will miss you in his book. She knew good and well she was temporary, holding Peytons spot until she came to reclaim her man. I hope we dont have to see her again. I REALLLLLLLY dont like her. [she is kinda manish looking too]

Nathan: Poor baby. To get so excited about the NBA and to have his dream snatched from underneath
him ONCE AGAIN. I knew it was too good to be true I just couldnt put my finger on it. As soonas Bobby said coaching I was like ooooooooh so thats why he is there. Unfortunately Nate wasnt as quick as I was about figuring out why he was there. No one wants to see Nates dream fade but I knew that he wasnt going to play for the NBA but according to next episodes scenes Nate may be playing a different kind of B-Ball. I am concerned though because it seems very violent and Nathans back is still not fully recovered. Spinal injuries are a [...]

Brooke: Still trying to deal with handing over the company to Victoria. Now I am kinda glad
she did. She can move on now and start up again all by herself! Her therapy sessions didnt reveal anything we didnt know. Brooke measures her friends success by love and family and her own by money and the company. Brooke needs a MAN! A good MAN! That is going to hang in there with her for the long haul. I think she will stumble upon one unsuspectingly and we will all be surprised when we see that Brooke CAN have it all. I wonder if STEVEN from Laguna Beach will be back. I kinda liked his character and he is sexxi.

Samantha Amanda the New girl what ever her name is: She is homeless. Um so what? I kinda
want to know her story but I honestly dont really care. She needs to go away. I dont likeher. Everyone goes thru stuff and that doesnt mean she has to be a [...]. And that thing withher and Brooke at the Cafe... oH COME ON! and She couldnt rent a room with all that money Brooke HANDED her?? YEa whatever!

*side note: I think I have an issue with new characters. It takes a VERY GOOD CHARACTER and actor and a good story line for me to actually like new characters [like Q] but they will NEVER be apart of the original OTH cast. I love my nate haley peyton lucas and brooke!*

Peyton: DUH the dude is your dad. I knew he wasnt coming to dinner. No surprise. Didnt thinkhe would have a drinking problem tho... kinda thought it would be drugs. Im bored with Peytons NEW family members. What ever happened to Derek, not pscyho white Derek but the real half black brother Navy Derek?? Will he be coming back too? Who knows.... who cares. I am
      over it.

So next episode we will play catch up on there lives. Naley and the after effects of the Nanny thing, and Nathan getting offered another job/career. Leyton and there upcoming weddingand Lucas' book tour and of course Peyton and her long lost "father". Brooke tells Peyton what really went down that day at the store and the black eyes. Dan trys to get his family back. Maybe one more chance guys! Come on do it for Jamie!Wonder if Deb and Skillz will get screen time next episode??? Mouth comes back next episode too I think. CANT WAIT! I hate when they make us wait two weeks.... what am I to do with my life until then?? Probably blog some more.

PS Dont forget what I mentioned earlier. There are some One Tree Hill Podcasts on Itunes.
They are free and no I am not the one hosting them but I listen to them. They have some good stuff going on and I like to hear what other people thought about OTH.

I was actually a little disappointed last episode. To be honest it was kinda boring. So lets get started

Lucas and Peyton: I dont believe I seen Lucas and Peyton on screen together the entire episode which really sucks. They got us all hyped up about getting married and then an entire episode goes down without them actually being together. That kinda pissed me off.

Skill and Deb: I wasnt surprised when Deb broke it off with Skills because she was trying to keep her family. I was even less surprised at the end when they got back together with Nathans blessing. They are an odd couple but You can help who makes you happy.

Nathan: Is still working on his A Game. It was sweet of Skills to come and help him at the end. I wasnt surprised when he gave his mama the boot when he found out about Skills. I also, like I said, wasnt surprised that he finally told Deb to go be with Skills.

Nanny Carrie: Is still crazy as ever and we all know what is going to happen next episode.

Peyton: That music dude is so totally her Dad, its so freaking obvious. I wonder who she will have walk her down the isle.. her adopted dad or her real dad?? The way things are going who knows if she will ever make it down the isle and with her luck both of her dads will die before the wedding. For some reason everyone she knows dies.... kinda strange.

Brooke:  I thought in therapy some real deal info was about to come out but it didnt so I was kinda pissed off at that. AND THEN I WAS ALL EXCITED WHEN SHE WENT TO NY TO FIND VICTORIA... and was let down again because no other real deal info was given, it was obvious Victoria didnt want kids... no big shocker there. And I know it was suppose to be all empowering and stuff when she let Victoria have the company but it wasnt. Brooke just gave it to her... I would be D*MNED if I just gave my company away to my evil mother. If Brooke put up a fight it wouldve made things alot more interesting. So now what is Brooke going to do? Go find a BF get knocked up and get married so we can have another Nathan/Haley couple? I'm kinda annoyed with Brooke right now and its not her fault its the writers for trying to make a weak moment appear strong.

Q: kept popping up in this episode. I am kinda glad that they didnt just let his ending go thru just one episode. It was kinda creepy everytime he popped up tho.

Da New Girl: I still dont know her name so that should tell you that she isnt very important to me. She and her life is soooo boring to me already. I dont really care what she is going thru. Its highschool DEAL WITH IT! They are trying to make her into this mysterious tragic character but really they are just wasting screen time on her. She is a newbie therefore I dont care about her or the events in her life... unless it effects da main characters in a dramatic way and even then I am sure I would be sick and tired of her complaining and her smart mouth. If I was Haley or Brooke I wouldve been knock some sense into that girl with her smart [...] mouth. UGH!

Lucas [da lub of muh life]: Was very pedictable this episode.... he went and seen Q's mama again, talked to his lil brother, made smart remarks about Deb and Skills, Retired Q's jersey and made an extremely long speech that I must admit I skipped thru. I love my Lucas and I would be very angry if the writers started to make Lucas some boring old character that we didnt care to see... like Mouth.

Well I am hoping that next episode will be as exciting as it looks. Hopefully Leyton will get some more screen time and Brooke will figure out what she is going to do with her life.

      DOWN WITH NANNY CARRIE!!!!
